The Community Justice Centre (CJC), a trusted 25-year-old leader in restorative justice and community conflict resolution in the Comox Valley, is inviting expressions of interest from individuals who are passionate about restorative justice, anti-racism, anti-hate and community-building to join its board of directors.
As a non-profit organization with a proven track record of innovative, community-based solutions to conflict, the CJC plays a critical role in promoting accountability and healing. Board members help guide the organization’s strategic direction, ensure good governance, and strengthen partnerships that support safer, more inclusive communities.
“This is an exciting time to join our board,” said CJC President Katie MacLaurin, adding, “our board is welcoming and committed and our program is energized and growing to meet changing community needs. We’re looking for individuals who believe in restorative justice and want to contribute their perspective to meaningful change.”
The board is particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Non-profit governance and policy, with experience or interest in a Decolonized lens, Indigenous, queer or multicultural living expertise, trauma-informed engagement, and/or restorative justice.
"If you don’t have experience in these areas, but are passionate about the work of the CJC you are still encouraged to express interest," a release from the centre says. "The board welcomes those who are new to being on a non-profit board."
Board members typically commit to monthly meetings and occasional committee work.
