Thanks to the generous sponsors of the Crown Isle Ladies Club Majestic Cup Tournament in July, the tournament committee was able to hold a raffle. The raffle was so well supported by the participants, that the committee, in turn, was able to make a donation to Dawn to Dawn. Dawn to Dawn is a local, Comox Valley nonprofit organization whose goal is to create a comprehensive transitional housing program for homeless and at-risk individuals and families in the Comox Valley. The Cumberland Lodge and Health Centre would like to extend appreciation to a group from Cumberland who hosted a fundraiser in aid of the music therapy program at Cumberland Lodge. Accepting a cheque for $1,500 from Gail Keenan is secretary of the resident council Jean Airth, seated with Music Therapist 鈥� Bethany Parsons and baby Jeanette. Funds raised by an annual clothing sale was supported by, Donna Frawley, Barb Giroday, Marjorie Grinnell, Gail Keenan, Julia Powsey, Shelia Rodger, Lillian Tossoff and Bonnie Vance. Appreciation extended to the Cumberland Community Church for allowing the sale to be on site at the Church. Funds such as these support the Music Therapy program at the lodge on a weekly basis for our residents, and most recently supported a 鈥楥hildren鈥檚 Music Therapy Group鈥� at the lodge.The Crown Isle Ladies Clothing Sale netted $1,600 for junior golf in the Comox Valley. Money raised came from the donation of nearly-new golf clothing and shoes. Of the proceeds, Judy Constantino presents a cheque for $800 to Evan Webber, golf pro & coordinator of Crown Isle Junior Golf. Kathy Thompson, CILC captain presents $800 to Dee Horie & Sheila VanGisbergen, supporting Zone 6 junior girls golf.At its recent meeting the Kiwanis Club of Courtenay presented three bursaries to students attending North Island College. Louise DeArmond, the President, is seen with Kelsey Fisher (Trades), Kevin Berot (Human Services - Educational Assistant) and Lucas Statham (Trades).An appreciation for British Columbia鈥檚 unique and diverse natural resources and a desire to protect and preserve them has earned Vancouver Island University student Mark Frisson a $1,500 scholarship from the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. The scholarship will support his third-year studies in the BSc Fisheries and Aquaculture program at VIU and help him pursue a meaningful career in fisheries conservation or research. Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC scholarships are available to students enrolled in fish culture or natural resource management programs within a recognized post-secondary education institution in British Columbia. To be eligible, applicants must have completed at least their first year of post-secondary studies and plan to continue as a student, with the intent of establishing a career in BC.(L-R) Carole Dickson (Auxiliary VP) Cathie Sturam ( North Island Hospital Comox Valley, acting director) Caroline Hoon ( Auxiliary president) and Annette Moore (North Island Hospital Comox Valley administration).
