Comox Valley organizations and individuals give back to the community

The Comox Valley Chamber hosted the annual Community Partners Holiday Mixer, Dec. 12 at the Blackfin Pub. Over 160 guests attended to celebrate the holiday season with the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce, North Island College, Community Futures Strathcona, The Comox Valley Airport Commission, and Comox Valley Economic Development Society. In total $2,544 was raised for the Comox Valley Food Bank and three boxes of non-perishable items collected. Throughout the month of December, Parker鈥檚 Appliances & More donated a proceed from each appliance sale for a donation to the food bank. We exceeded our original goal of $1,000, for a total donation of $1,100.Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial Rotarian Deb Nolan, seen here 鈥渉olding the bag鈥�, surprised the Courtenay Team of Days for Girls. Days for Girls is a global movement that prepares and distributes sustainable menstrual health solutions to girls who would otherwise miss school during their monthly periods. Deb presented a $500 cheque from Cumberland Rotary held in this picture by Helen Cox. These folks meet every Wednesday from 10-2 to sew kits that are sent around the world.Dawn Ringrose of Merville Community Association gleefully accepts $1,000 from Cumberland Rotary鈥檚 community service director, Linda Oprica. The money will go towards the upgrading of their children鈥檚 playground in time for Merville鈥檚 100 Year Anniversary this year.CUPE Local 556 members care about the communities we live and work in. We strive to support various groups in the Comox Valley on an annual basis. 鈥淭oday we are pleased that in addition to our annual $1000 donation to support Lilli House, we are making an additional $1000 donation to help the Comox Valley Transition Society after the terrible fire they experienced at the Too Good To Be Threw thrift store,鈥� said Karen Garrett, CUPE 556 President.100 + Women Who Care Comox Valley presented the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society with a $7,100 cheque.
