The School District 71 Robotics Club competed at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, Texas this year, and could not have done so without the support of the community.

“(We) would like to say a big thank you to the Comox Valley community for the amazing show of support in their fundraising efforts to attend the World Championship,” said a press release. “The outpouring of support from our community during our SD71 Robotics Club bottle drive and grocery bagging, coupled with the generosity of our sponsors-Meraki Resources, North Island College Youth Academy, Underhill Geomatics Ltd., SEAMOR Marine, McElhanney, Innovation Island and the Comox Valley Airport, made it possible for our three teams to compete on the world stage of robotics.”

The local representatives represented the Comox Valley well on the international stage. Each team won five of their 10 qualification matches, with some very close matches against other world-class competitors.

One of the three Comox Valley teams, 7842X, placed 26th in the World Skills Challenges Ranking, among more than 800 teams at the competition.

“Every team member had a fantastic and unforgettable experience making connections with top-level peers while representing the Comox Valley with skill and professionalism on the world stage of robotics,” reads the press release. “Thank you, Comox Valley! We couldn’t have done it without you!”
