For the last 28 years, Fiesta World Craft Bazaar has been a Comox Valley Christmas shopping staple, as residents supported the local and global organizations and businesses that are working to make a fairer world.
This year the global COVID pandemic has made an in-person Fiesta impossible. However, Fiesta is resilient and adaptable and is now ready to come into your home.
Fiesta is online this year! Just go to and start shopping. Shoppers can select one of the 20 vendors, read about them and see their products and in one click will be at their store. They are accepting credit and debit cards, e-transfer and other payment methods. If it is from a vendor who is out of town they will ship the purchase.
There is a wonderful set of shops to see, a virtual bazaar; purchase a tasty soup or a bright beautiful candle from L’Arche or select a distinctive West Coast wooden handcrafted bird from Indonesia from Aviologie, who is giving 20 per cent off to local customers.
Global Village Nanaimo has an amazing variety from around the globe, including New Internationalist calendars, which are a Fiesta favourite.
World Pilgrims Artisans has delicate hummingbirds from Guatemala; Spectacled Bear Conservation has very sweet felt animals from Peru; Batiqua has classy unique pillow covers from Zimbabwe; Aldea Maya offers the opportunity to buy an alternate gift that will provide schooling for a student in Chuk Muk Guatemala.
The Mondo Trading Company from Salt Spring Island has carefully selected products from over 50 countries and has become the largest vendor at Fiesta. Their bedspreads and housecoats from Bangladesh are bright and beautiful.
Indiart from Colombia has eye-catching baskets from the Wayuu people. Ecomamas has high-end linens from Uganda and Jackee Kasandy has amazing leather bags and accessories from Kenya.
These are some of the surprises you will be in for as you shop Fiesta at home this year.
“Fiesta gives us the opportunity to look outside our bubble and to correct some of the inequities of the world,” said organizer, Dave Talbot. “Fiesta is an antidote to ours and the world’s ills!”
