Courtenay is one of 10 cities participating in the second annual Canadian Walk for Veterans on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The theme of this year’s walk is suicide awareness and prevention for those who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The event provides an opportunity for people to walk shoulder-to-shoulder, and to hear stories from veterans and first responders. Participants receive a challenge coin, imprinted with 1-800 suicide prevention hotline numbers and the following message of hope: ‘One day your story of perseverance will be someone else’s survival guide.’

The walk is from 10 a.m.—1 p.m. at the Courtenay Heritage Riverway, Mansfield Drive entrance. Registration is 9:30 a.m.
