The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) in partnership with Denman Works have launched a Denman Island bus service. The pilot project bus service, now operational, runs three days a week (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), as well as all statutory holidays until Labour Day.

The summer service will travel according to a schedule going around the island and bus stops will be marked with a tall sandwich board. There will be five designated stops – Denman West terminal, downtown (Denman Activity Centre & Museum), the Guesthouse, Farmer’s Market, and Gravelly Bay Ferry Terminal. There will also be pickup and drop off on request along the route at driver discretion depending on time. The Denman Island Bus Service will not only enable travel to key destinations on the island, but it will facilitate connections to BC Ferries where bus riders can travel to the Comox Valley or Hornby Island where other buses will make regional travel without a private automobile possible.

“We are very excited to be part of this transit partnership on Denman and Hornby,” said Daniel Arbour, CVRD director for Electoral Area A: Baynes Sound, Denman and Hornby Islands. “Hopefully residents and visitors will experiment with this new service for their commutes over the summer months. In the fall, a review of the pilot project will be completed for Denman, and combined with results of the transport study being conducted by Denman Works will inform future approach for Denman transit.”

The bus will be a light duty vehicle with 20 seats, will have wheelchair access and a rear luggage compartment. The cost will be $2 per ride and paid by cash or credit card onboard the bus.

The CVRD awarded the contract to Ambassador Transportation, which is seeking to employ local Denman Island drivers. If you are interested contact Denman Works at 250-335-2087 for more information and available opportunities.
