In response to numerous inquiries and informal conversations about the philosophy of Jordan Peterson, a well-recognized author and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, St. George’s United Church is hosting a discussion group.
On Monday, Jan. 28, 6:30 p.m., in the upstairs lounge at St. George’s, Ryan Slifka, lead pastor, will facilitate a discussion on the first lecture in Peterson’s Psychological Significance of the Bible series. Depending on interest, this could be the first of a series of discussions on all of the lectures in Peterson’s series.
In preparation for the discussion, Slifka suggests those interested in attending read, view, or listen to Peterson’s lecture at .
“I’m not a fan of everything Peterson does or says,” said Slifka. “But one thing I do appreciate is how he’s sparked a revival of interest in the Bible as a rich source of spiritual wisdom, especially among young men. For all of the controversy surrounding him, a lot of people have been introduced to its depth and imagination without the baggage or worries they may have about literalism or fundamentalism—and I think that’s a good thing.
“This will be an opportunity to gather and discuss these lectures in a spirit of open-mindedness.”
