A recent grant has brought Courtenay's Lake Trail Community Education Society closer to its funding goal.
The society recently put out a call to the community for donations after a number of regular funding avenues did not pan out as expected. The Comox Valley Community Foundation's early grant to support youth programs and community connections in West Courtenay helps fill that funding gap that could have put programs at risk in September.
“We’re thrilled,” said Anna Rambow, the Society’s executive director. “By making a Community Enrichment Grant available early, the Foundation has significantly moved the needle on our funding gap. We can’t thank them enough for their support.”
In July, the Society put out an urgent call to raise $50,000 to support programs and initiatives that support youth and connect community. The Foundation’s Community Enrichment Grants are awarded annually to eligible non-profit organizations who address many areas of considerable need in the Comox Valley.
“Lake Trail Community Education Society plays an essential role in building connection, learning, and wellness in West Courtenay — especially for youth and families,” said Jolean Finnerty, the Foundation’s Executive Director. “It’s thanks to the many generous community members who give through the Foundation that grant funding exists annually and, when possible, to support non-profits at critical moments.”
The grant has helped significantly reduce the Society’s unexpected shortfall. Combined with $13,000 in community donations, the new fundraising goal is $18,750.
“Our deepest thanks to everyone who has donated so far,” adds Rambow. “We’re so close, and with your help, we can get there.”
To make up the gap, the Society is inviting the community to Together on Tap!, a fundraising event taking place on Tuesday, August 26, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Gladstone Brewing in Courtenay. Guests can enjoy a $25 ticket package that includes a scratch-made burger, fries, and their choice of soda or beer. The event will feature live music, art, and activities for all ages. Attendees will have the chance to meet the LTCES team, bid on items in the silent auction, and try their luck in a 50/50 draw.
From 8 to 10 p.m. music lovers can hit the floor with Klassen Roos and Schmold, a high-energy trio blending glitchy techno, loops, and synths for an irresistibly danceable set. The dance party is all ages, by donation.
“Every dollar makes a difference,” said Rambow. “Please consider donating today to sustain programs and community connections that mean so much.”
