On Sunday, July 29, more than 30 riders hopped onto their horses and rode down to Williams Beach, north Courtenay, to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.
Chris Kippel participated in the Tour de Rock in 2014 and traded in his bike for a horse for this ride. Though it’s been four years since Kippel rode in the Tour, he still does all he can to help with fundraising efforts.
This year’s trail ride, hosted by Cups for Cancer brought in $740. Kandi Wood, Cups for Cancer president and founder, said the organization has raised over $60,000 for Tour de Rock in the five years they have helped fundraise.
Cups for Cancer’s will be hosting a barrel racing event on August 26 in support of the Tour.
