The long-awaited, second annual Line Dance for Charity is here.

Organized by Nimisha Jimenez and the Line Dance Collective, it's on April 26th from 1- 4 p.m., at the Cumberland Cultural Centre, 2674 Dunsmuir Avenue, Cumberland. All of the proceeds and donations will go to the Comox Valley Food Bank.

Established in 1983, the Comox Valley Food Bank currently serves over 5,100 households from Merville to Royston. Food bank usage increased by 32 per cent from 2023. To meet its needs, the organization depends on individuals as well as non-profit and community groups for volunteer support and financial contributions.

Having been involved in a charity organization and food banks in Metro Toronto for several years and in the line dance world for the past 10 years, Jimenez joins the two together, with "Line dance for a good cause" as her rallying cry.

"We line dancers love to have a great time. So why not put our joy in dancing to help others who don't have something as basic as food to eat?"

Thus was born Line Dance for Charity.

"Last year we had to cut if off at 80 registrants. We donated over $1,100 to Lush Valley Food Action Society."

This year, Jimenez hopes to top that. Donations are greatly appreciated if one can't make it on the day itself. For those coming, please bring a canned or packaged food good.

To register for this event, contact Jimenez at shaktistar@yahoo.com  Advance fee is $15; $20 at the door.
