Downtown Courtenay will come alive on Friday, July 25, as Pulse on the Plaza returns with Urban Jungle Jam, a free, family-friendly evening of live music, art-making, and community connection.

Running from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Duncan Avenue (between 5th and 6th Streets), the event invites the community to experience hands-on art activities, live performances and interactive installations in the heart of the city.

Musical performances include a DJ set to open and close the evening (5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.), as well as performances by Alick Mac (6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.), a local rapper and singer-songwriter known for his raw, honest lyrics, and Beau Nectar (7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), a bilingual synth-pop/folk duo featuring Marie-Clo and éemi.

Throughout the event, Charlie Karumi will host his pop-up podcast More of That, Please!, inviting the public to share ideas for a more connected and compassionate world.

The evening also features hands-on creative activities for all ages. Attendees can contribute to Piece by Piece, a collaborative community artwork developed throughout the night at the CV/Arts Art Wagon. The Make Art Station, led by the Comox Valley Art Gallery (CVAG) team, will offer a drop-in craft activity. Renowned printmaker Andy MacDougall will be on-site offering live screen printing with a custom design created specifically for the event.

The CVAG galleries will remain open late, with visitors invited to view the current exhibition Because • Not Despite.

Cumberland Forest will operate an all-ages bar serving a range of beverages, including non-alcoholic options.

Urban Jungle Jam is the second of four summer Pulse on the Plaza events. The series continues on the fourth Friday of August and September, each offering a new theme and fresh programming focused on community and creativity.

The event is presented in partnership with the Comox Valley Art Gallery, Comox Valley Arts, Elevate the Arts, and the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association (DCBIA).
