Youth join musical forces

Former Comox Valley youth Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips joined musical forces with Montreal's Devon Portielje

Former Comox Valley youth Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips joined musical forces with Montreal's Devon Portielje and formed the highly successful Montreal-based band Half Moon Run.

The band signed to Indica Records and released its debut album, Dark Eyes, on March 27.

Half Moon Run is touring the States, Canada, and parts of Europe including France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, and Germany.

They can be found on YouTube and Facebook.

Many locals will remember hearing Conner play at many events and locations, first with the band Jove and later with Bananafish.

The current incarnation of Half Moon Run was born tied to the walls of a sweaty room in Montreal's mile-end district.

It was there through the hardships of time constraints and flatlined bank accounts, the trio bonded and manages to fuse together the restless elements of indie with the honest part of warm electronica as they hover tightly against rhythmic harmonies and delicate guitar lines.

Addicted to both applause and progression, Half Moon Run is a nightmarishly satisfying experience both live and digitally.

Portielje is featured on lead vocals, guitars and percussion; Molander plays guitars, synthesizer, percussion and sings backup vocals, while Phillips is heard on synthesizer, drums and backup vocals.
