Dear Editor,

I am an elderly bike ride who uses the bike and walking paths around Courtenay and Comox daily.

I have a request to dog walkers. Please be aware that those thin extra long leads some of you use that allow your dog to be on one side of a wide path, while you are on the other side, can be dangerous for you and your dog. They cannot be easily seen by a person riding a bike and heading towards you on a bike not at walking speed.

They are an accident waiting to happen.

I would respectfully like to suggest that you try to always keep yourself between your dog and a person on a bike. This will be much less stressful to the dog, to a bike rider, and especially to you.

Thank you,

A bike rider who shares the paths with you.

Geoff Battimelli

Comox Valley

P.S. I like dogs, and don’t want them to come to harm.
