Dear Editor,
Courtenay council are considering fines up to $2,000 for violating Stage four water restrictions in Courtenay.
Although the Valley is again in drought conditions, we are fortunate to have the Comox Lake watershed and Comox Lake reservoir at 85 per cent capacity, thanks to BC Hydro who control over 80 per cent of the water use, and release most of Comox Lake water in the rainy season for Courtenay flood control.
Many, many times the use of residential customers on the CVRD water supply in summer or anytime. Enough water for millions of customers.
I suggest that Courtenay council work with BC Hydro to ensure that Comox Lake water is retained for Hydro power, fish enhancement and people who grow gardens and enhance the beauty of the Comox Valley.
Management of the Comox Lake watershed resource is shameful. Almost as shameful as Cliffe Avenue.
