Dear Editor,
On July 31, a wildfire started on Wesley Ridge located near Cameron Lake. This fire quickly grew, threatening Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park and Little Qualicum River Village (LQRV). ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ 300 homes were evacuated in LQRV and 100 more in the following days.
Knowing it would take time for Emergency Services to set up resources for the evacuees, I immediately reached out on social media to the citizens in Comox Valley with a plea for help. The result was overwhelming with nearly 200 people stepping forward with offers: guestrooms, private suites, vacant AirBnbs, transportation and boarding of livestock and pets, RV pads with and without services, towing services, and the list goes on.
It was difficult to keep up with the offers while simultaneously responding to requests from the evacuees. If you did not hear from me directly, I’m sorry, but please know your generosity has not gone unnoticed.
I want to thank everyone who came forward at a moment’s notice and offered their help. The generosity of this community is boundless!
