Among the Georgia Straight Jazz Society鈥檚 goals is a commitment to support and encourage upcoming younger musicians in the pursuit of their professional careers, and to afford the Comox Valley an opportunity to experience their depth of talent so they can say in a few years鈥� time, 鈥淚 remember seeing him before he was really well known.鈥�

Her art has taken her around the world, and given her the opportunity to meet some of the entertainment industry鈥檚 biggest stars and now Stacey Wells calls the Comox Valley home.

If you like books, and if you enjoy meeting authors, you will love the inaugural Big Island Book Fest from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay.

The Comox Valley Art Gallery will host three 鈥渟tory walks鈥� this fall as part of its ongoing Walk With Me project, an arts-based response to the toxic drug crisis.

Following last week鈥檚 memorable concert by Marc Atkinson, Georgia Straight Jazz Society has another internationally respected jazz artist when saxophonist Monik Nordine takes the stage with two of her most respected jazz colleagues at the Flying Canoe at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The exhibition Challenging Mortality runs at Artful : The Gallery thru Oct. 15.

This week鈥檚 jazz concert at the Flying Canoe is quite exceptional.
