Comox Fire Rescue douses sailboat fire

Comox Fire Rescue responded to the Comox Marina on July 24 for a report of a sailboat on fire

Comox Fire Rescue responded to the Comox Marina on July 24 for a report of a sailboat on fire.

Crews received a call at around 5:30 p.m. about smoke coming from a boat in the Comox Marina. Luckily, Comox Fire Rescue already had their boat down in the marina for a training exercise, and were able to respond quickly.

"We found the boat was buttoned up pretty tight, nobody was on it," said assistant fire chief Jim Lariviere. "We opened her up, went in and put the fire out."

The fire was located at the stern of the boat, and was confined to that area. Lariviere said there were no people on the boat at the time of the fire and no injuries.

The cause is still under investigation.
