Comox Valley SAR were kept busy with three calls on Aug. 6.

Comox Valley SAR (CVSAR) was activated early on Aug. 6 for a morning for a search on Mount Albert Edward.

A father and daughter had been checking in with a Zoleo satellite communicator during their hike, but all communication stopped after they reached the summit the previous afternoon.

With weather conditions far from ideal, CVSAR launched ground and helicopter teams at first light, supported by RCMP Air 8. Around 8:00 a.m., a new message came through, the pair had made it down safely and were camped at Circlet Lake.

At 8:00 a.m., a second call came in. A youth visiting from Saskatchewan had become cliffed out while free-climbing at the Cumberland Lake climbing area. Rope rescue teams were deployed and conducted a top-down rescue to bring him to safety.

Later in the afternoon, during a thunderstorm, CVSAR was activated once again, this time to help search for a missing five-year-old who had wandered away from home. The child was located and safely reunited with their family.

Three calls in one day, all with safe outcomes. A huge thank you to all our dedicated members for your tireless commitment to serving the Comox Valley—24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
