Maintenance work on at-risk sewer pipe starts next week at Balmoral Beach

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will be conducting preventative maintenance work on two sections of a sewer pipe that run along Balmoral Beach below the Willemar Bluffs. The pipe moves raw sewage from homes and businesses in Courtenay, Comox and K’ómoks First Nation to the treatment plant on Brent Road. It is located on an exposed section of beach that is vulnerable to damage by waves, rocks and logs, and poses an environmental risk to local beaches and the ocean.

Courtenay launches AAP for Fifth Street Bridge rehabilitation

An Alternative Approval Process (AAP) is underway in Courtenay to measure public support for borrowing funds to rehabilitate the Fifth Street Bridge. The bridge requires structural improvements, new coating to repair and prevent corrosion, and deck repairs. In order to proceed with construction in 2021, Courtenay will need to borrow $3.4 million.
