GP Vanier Secondary’s rugby teams capped off an incredible season with two podium finishes at the recent B.C. School Sports Provincial Championships.
The Senior Girls Rugby 15s team brought home Gold, dominating the provincial tournament and securing their fifth provincial title in the past 10 years. After finishing first on Vancouver Island during the regular season, the team continued their strong play on the provincial stage, defeating top teams from across the province. Their consistent excellence is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches, and the strength of the program.
Meanwhile, the Senior Boys Rugby 7s team earned an impressive Silver medal in their provincial tournament. Entering as the number four seed, the team went undefeated in pool play on Day one. On Day two, they notched a quarterfinal win over St. Thomas More, followed by a thrilling upset over number one-ranked West Vancouver in the semi-final. In the championship match, the Towhees faced Belmont — a rematch from the Island final just weeks earlier—and, despite a hard-fought effort, settled for Silver. The boys were praised for their strong pressure defense throughout the tournament. Special recognition goes to Marcus Constantino, who was named to the Tournament Team and finished as the leading try scorer.
Congratulations to both GP Vanier teams for representing their school and the Comox Valley with pride, skill, and sportsmanship on the provincial stage.
