Comox Valley wrestler heads to South America for Pan American Games

Jolina Healey, a Fanny Bay teen and Grade 11 student at G.P. Vanier High School has earned a spot on the Team Canada U17 National Wrestling team. 

Healey is travelling with other athletes from around Canada to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to compete at the prestigious Pan American Games on June 19-20, 2025 as the 73 kg Canadian Women’s wrestling representative.  

Although Healey began wrestling just two years ago, she has excelled in the sport. She has been wrestling on the G.P. Vanier Secondary School Wrestling team and with Team Rhino wrestling in off season. 

In the past year, Healey has taken home numerous gold medals at secondary school competitions and was the Island Champion at 73 kg. She took home the third place medal at Provincials this year and helped the G.P. Vanier women’s wrestling team secure the third place team trophy for the second year in a row.

To earn her place on Team Canada, Healey had to best the competition at the Canadian National Wrestling Tournament last month in Edmonton, Alta. She faced tough competition from across Canada and secured her spot on team Canada by winning every match by fall.

Earlier in the spring Healey also secured a spot to compete for the Province of British Columbia in the Canada Summer Games, which will be taking place in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador in August 2025.  

In addition to wrestling, Healey works at the Fanny Bay Inn and is academically excellent. She has plans to attend university after next year to pursue a degree in nursing.
