MOWI Riptide teams were back in full-swing after the Thanksgiving weekend. The U14 and U16 girls played away games Saturday against Victoria South. The U15 boys had a bye on Sunday, while the U18 girls played the U18 Gorge girls at Hampton Park in Victoria, the U18 boys played the U18 Bays Boys at home and the U16 boys played Victoria South at home.

The Comox Valley Lacrosse Association (CVLA) had a stellar 2019 year which finished with two teams competing in the provincial championships, and four athletes selected to play at the national level. Athletes brought home a team provincial gold title, three national silver medals and one national gold medal.

The seasons have shifted in the Comox Valley, which means women鈥檚 hockey is back in action.

Jeff Dubois has been hired as the new head coach and GM of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. Jordan Kamprath had coached the team last season, and 12 games into this season.

The Comox Valley United men鈥檚 team is undefeated five games into the season, and occupies sole possession of first place in Division 2 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League.

Judo season has started with a bang for 13-year-old Dakota Sanzana of Comox, who won a gold medal in the U16 minus-48 kilogram division at the Rainier Cup Judo Championships, Saturday in Lakewood, Wash.

Toni Powsey, a graduate of Highland Secondary and the Riptide soccer program, was selected women鈥檚 soccer athlete of the week, Oct. 9, in the Northwest Athletic Conference.
