Comox runner became serious after retirement

The Comox Valley Volleyball Camp is excited to provide athletes with an excellent opportunity to play, improve, and excel in the sport. The camp will be held at Mark Isfeld Secondary from July 10-13.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee loaned his prized left arm last Thursday to the Komox Men’s Real Baseball League, pitching an inning apiece for two of the masters teams. One of the teams, appropriately, was the Expos — for whom Lee played in the latter part of his 14-year MLB career.

The long weekend saw Saratoga Speedway hopping with action as nearly 80 race cars filled the Black Creek oval for two days of racing. They produced 28 races and, along with two monster trucks, entertained two of the biggest crowds in local sports entertainment in 2017.

A week after defeating the rain to open the 2017 racing season, Mother Nature got her way Saturday at Saratoga Speedway after the skies opened and forced a cancellation of half the night’s racing featuring the IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf and Bomber cars. The first race of the season for the Modifieds was scheduled to be the Darrell Wardrope Memorial race for the former Modified driver who lost his courageous battle with cancer in February. The race will now be run May 27.

The Comox Bay Sailing Team attended the Kitten Cup Regatta in Vancouver with entrants in the Optimist and 420 fleets.
