WorkSafeBC recently issued a penalty of $4,361.27 to DV ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ Custom Homes for a high-risk violation at a Courtenay worksite.

DV ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ Custom Homes worksite was a two-storey house under construction. WorkSafeBC inspected the site and observed a worker on the top platform of a scaffold.

No guardrails or other form of fall protection was in place, exposing the worker to a fall risk of about 4.9m (16ft.). DV ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ Custom Homes failed to ensure fall protection was used which is a high-risk violation under WorkSafeBC’s rules.

WorkSafeBC states that falls from heights result in some of the most serious work-related injuries.

From 2020 to 2024, there were over 5,400 injury claims in the construction sector from falls from elevation, including almost 1,900 serious injuries and 35 fatalities. Over 1,000 construction workers were injured due to falls from elevation last year.

WorkSafeBC issued 152 administrative penalties for inadequate fall protection in 2024, totalling $1,069,720.
