RCMP Grinch with your belief for the beautiful Christmas decorated trucks, perhaps if you want to have this firm attitude towards the Motor Vehicle Act, enforce the unsecured loads on large commercial dump trucks and low beds with the decks covered with mud and dirt and what about all of the out of province licence plates of local residents! You can’t cherry pick! Thanks to all that decorated your trucks!
BEEF TO THE PERSON IN THE KILMARNOCK subdivision who does not like my sign reminding them to “pick up after their dog” defecates. Is your conscience offended? Why have you been knocking down the sign, and recently threw it in the swampy forest? If your dog is like family, what did you do when your child soiled their underwear? It is still an offence to not pick up from public property, such as roadsides. Ask the animal control officer!
A big bouquet to the NDP. In recent history local municipal politicians who were generally known to be connected to the party tended to downplay their affiliation. However, it seems now, probably spurred by their provincial success, that they have decided to publicly come out of the closet and proudly declare their alliances. This was signalled by a Christmas greeting advertisement which was run by one of the other smaller newspapers that was obviously sponsored by the party which, as would be expected, ran a greeting from Gord Johns. What wasn’t expected was similar messages from Erik Eriksson, David Frisch, Doug Hillian and Rebecca Lennox, right next to the MP’s ad. Why is this important? Well, I think it confirms the rumour I have heard, that the NDP are going make an effort to get control of Courtenay council and the school board in this year’s municipal elections. Eriksson for mayor and a majority on council. Of course this would be a major advantage for the party supporters who would then be negotiating contracts, staffing levels and wages with the people they put in power. As a taxpayer I fail to see anything positive in such an incestuous arrangement. That couldn’t happen, you say? Well, it is entirely possible if, as traditionally happens, 70 per cent of registered voters again decide to stay at home on voting day. Basically it turns into just another version of the dreaded alternate approval method.
THIS IS A BEEF to all the ignorant and inconsiderate people out there [myself included]. I read the beefs all the time and some of the complaints are so trivial I can’t believe it. There’s a lot of people out there that don’t have a pinch of what the majority of us have. So maybe folks it’s time you took a drive to Point Holmes and sat at the beach or up the mountain and just look at the scenery, or wherever your favourite place is and just slow down and appreciate what life has given you, because in an instant it could all be gone. I know, because I just survived a life changing illness and could not have done this without the support of people in the medical world who give up their time to try to save idiots like us. So when you’re going to freak out in traffic or someone’s child is too loud in a store… and the list goes on… just take a breath, relax, and remember it can all be gone as quick as you take that breath.
Bouquets to Reids Automotive. On Dec. 20, our vehicle which was parked in our yard and locked was illegally entered and an attempt to steal it by smashing the ignition key switch to supposedly hot wire it were unsuccessful. When Trent of Reids Automotive heard about this, he and his staff volunteered to repair this damage free of charge, which they did, and also they noticed the battery was weak so they replaced that and changed the oil all at no cost to us - what a nice Christmas present for us. My wife and I are very grateful. Many thanks.
Just want to give a friendly bouquet to the Mr. Lube staff, they’re always very friendly and informative. Their manager should be proud!

Big bouquet goes out to Francine, Steve, France and Ken for organizing and preparing the turkey and ham that were generously provided by the Comox Senior Centre for members and guests on Christmas Day. Fantastic pot lunch food provided and enjoyed by all. Big thank you to the organizers and centre - excellent job!
A LOVELY PLANTER of poinsettias to the high school student who organized the collection and delivery of presents to the long-term care facilities in the Valley and to the staff at the facilities who prepared the gifts and delivered them to the residents “from Santa.” A bouquet as well, to the Valley’s citizens who contributed to the collection of gifts. What a lovely thought, to ensure all our elderly-in-care are remembered at this special time of year! It took a lot of work on the part of all involved and is thoroughly appreciated by this relative.
To the “penny rounder” complaining about .97 and .99 cent pricing, the retailers may not think you are stupid but here’s my judgment: only when using cash does rounding apply, and then only for the change given - not the subtotal or tax amounts charged. Somehow in the past five years, you must not have used a debit or credit card, written a cheque, or paid attention to any bills or financial statements.
BIG BEEFS to the Town of Comox for the cheesy pathetic “seasonal” display at the top of Comox hill. Really? The wooden reindeer looked like an after-thought and the sign looked like an amateur made it. And it is the Christmas season (at least the last time I checked) so why not have the words Merry Christmas along with Happy Holidays. Hopefully you can do better next Christmas!
A BEEF TO ALL those vehicles who drive with their fog lights on all the time. You visually impair all transportation that you meet on the road, be it vehicular, bicycle or pedestrian. Using your fog lights is the equivalent of driving around with your high beams on, so please turn them off.
