FREESTYLE SKIER PETER Stubbs had an amazing season of competition.

Peter Stubbs had an unbelievable 2010/2011 freestyle ski season. He has just finished his fourth year competing in freestyle skiing while training with the Mt. Washington Freestyle Club Competitive Team.

Stubbs is a16-year-old Grade 10 student at GP Vanier Secondary School; he has always called Courtenay home and Mount Washington “his” mountain since he started skiing at the age of five.

Stubbs was recently selected to join the BC High Performance Mogul Team for the 2011/2012 season.  Training will be held during the summer at Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler, BC.

Stubbs' first 10-day training camp started May 5 with on-snow training and assessment. More training is scheduled as the summer progresses with a Glacier Mogul training Camp in July and a Water Ramp Camp in August all held at Whistler/Blackcomb.  Then an early ski season on-snow Camp in November at Apex Mountain Resort Penticton.

Stubbs kicked off this freestyle ski season competing in his first-ever Canadian Freestyle Series event at Apex Mountain Resort, Penticton Jan. 14-16 followed by the first BC Series competition, a provincially sanctioned BC Freestyle event, Jan. 21-23. The second BC Series was held Feb. 18-20 at Silver Star, Vernon.

Based on his results from the Canadian event and these two BC Series Stubbs qualified to represent B.C. at the Canadian Junior Nationals held March 10-13 at Marmot Basin, Jasper, Alberta. While there he placed 22nd in Single Moguls out of a field of 45 of Canada’s best young freestyle skiers.

Stubbs took part in the BC Freestyle Championships held March 31 to April 1 on Blackcomb. The mogul course set on Davy’s Dervish has a 30 degree slope, is 240 meters in length and is considered one of the most difficult courses on the World Cup circuit.  In a field of 35 competitors Stubbs took bronze for Single Moguls in the M3 category.
