Details:
The Rangers originally selected Garand in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
A product of the Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Association, Garand has been climbing steadily through the Rangers’ system.
He’s coming off a strong season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, New York’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, where he posted a 20-10-9 record in 39 appearances. His 2.73 goals-against average, three shutouts, and .913 save percentage ranked among the league’s best, earning him a spot at the 2025 AHL All-Star Challenge.
Before turning pro, Garand spent five years with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he was named CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2021-22.
Garand has also represented Canada on multiple occasions.
He backstopped the country to a gold medal at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and most recently, was part of Canada’s roster at the 2025 World Championship, recording a shutout win over Slovenia in their tournament opener.
Looking ahead to the 2025-26 season, Garand is expected to take on the starting role in Hartford, and be a potential call-up for the Rangers if Igor Shesterkin or Jonathan Quick are unavailable.
He’ll also have some familiar competition nearby, with former Port Alberni Bulldog Callum Tung in the mix for the backup role in Hartford.
Garand’s contract carries an NHL cap hit of $775,000, with a minor-league salary of $100,000 and a guaranteed salary of $125,000. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
