Dear Editor,

Where is Aaron Gunn? As a politically minded citizen, I write frequently to politicians at different levels of Canadian government. Some elected officials write thoughtful long responses in return, and some send back a modified version of what is obviously a form letter, but nearly all of them respond. Aaron Gunn is one of the very few who sends nothing. No response at all, not even an "out of office" message. I have contacted him twice at his official parliamentary email (once in May, and once in June), and despite waiting weeks (months), I have yet to hear from him. I would be interested to know if other people who have written to him are having the same issue.

Our elected representatives are there to work for us. They are there to listen to our concerns and bring our wishes to parliament. Our previous M.P., Rachel Blaney sent intelligent and detailed responses to my emails. In the rare instances when she was too busy to reply herself, her staff sent thoughtful responses on her behalf. This is the duty of elected representatives. They are there to listen to our concerns and to respond to them appropriately.

In the beginning, I thought that perhaps Mr. Gunn needed some time to adjust to his new role, but it has been such a long time it has become clear that he is not taking his communications seriously. I encourage our community to continue to reach out to him with your concerns. Democracy belongs to the people, and it is through dialogue that M.P.s learn which issues are important to their constituents. Mr. Gunn should be reading and responding to his constituents. It is his job.
