Dear Editor,
Does the American constitution allow for the appointment of tutors for the President? Trump really needs one for arithmetic and basic accounting.
He consistently claims that the United States is "earning" billions with his tariffs. The U.S. treasury may be getting that much in tariff payments but the people paying that money are the American consumers not the countries against whom the tariffs are levied. It is merely a transfer from one American pocket to another.
Trump also claims that Canada and other countries are "ripping off" the United States by selling them resources they need at fair market prices. AND the United States is "subsidizing" Canada by buying those resources just like each of us is "subsidizing" the various stores when we buy their merchandise.
Do his supporters really believe what he is telling them? Maybe. A friend recently reminded me that if the average American I.Q. is 100 (Canadians using the same tests score an average of 110) that half the population has to have a below average intelligence.
