The Comox Blue Devils Swim Club is off to a great start only one month into their summer season. This past weekend, they competed in the season’s first swim meet in Cowichan.
There were 17 racers in attendance, including four novice swimmers. The weekend was filled with the best times from almost all swimmers with some swimmers dropping as much as 30 seconds off their previous personal bests.
Brayden Herman took 25 seconds off his 50m butterfly and placed third in addition to taking another 27 seconds of his personal best for the 100m freestyle. Steph Charlie improved her previous personal best by over 25 seconds in over three of her races. Callie Blasco placed first in every one of her races. Racers Cassie Enga, Avery Galik-Lemky, Audrey Mather and Mea Williams achieved substantial personal bests in every event that they swam in. Jude Williams placed top three in multiple events.
This season’s coaches say that “they have never seen so many best times at one swim meet,” and that “they are very proud of all of the swimmers’ hard work and performances.”
The coaches are looking forward to seeing how the swimmers continue to have fun and improve throughout the season.
The next swim meet will be held locally at the Courtenay Memorial Outdoor pool on June 14 and 15, where they hope to have a great turnout for swimmer attendance.
