The Comox Valley Kickers RFC is turning up the heat on Courtenay’s late-summer fun with their 3rd Annual Co-Ed Touch Rugby Tournament, taking place Saturday, Aug. 30 at Lewis Park.
Designed for players aged 16 and over of all skill levels, this touch rugby tournament offers six-on-six games. Teams can register up to 10 players, with at least one female player on the field at all times, for $175. Individuals are welcome to sign up as a single for $25 and will be placed on a team, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate and enjoy the day.
Four teams have already locked in their spot, with squads making the trip from Campbell River and Powell River. With more teams expected to join in the coming weeks, organizers are anticipating the biggest turnout yet.
Matches follow amended international touch rules, making for fast-paced, high- energy games that are perfect for players of all experience levels. There’s plenty to enjoy off the field too—attendees can stock up on Kickers merchandise, cool off with a cold one in the beer garden, and enjoy a catered lunch from Mignon & Kie (pre-orders required).
Of course, no Kickers event would be complete without the option to take a post-game plunge into the river next to the field.
This tournament is the perfect way to cap off the summer season before the full-contact rugby season kicks off. To register, e-transfer cvkickers@gmail.com. Registration closes on Aug. 22, so rally your friends or sign up solo before time runs out. Spectators are encouraged to attend. Bring the family and cheer on the teams!
