Saratoga Speedway patrons were greeted Saturday, Aug. 10 with an Excavator Archway at the Speedway gates thanks to race event sponsor Westerra Equipment.

Greg Koster scored the overall low gross of 134, and Rick Siddall scored 127 to take the overall low net trophy at the 82nd Comox Men鈥檚 North Island Amateur Tournament last month. The event drew 100 golfers.

The Comox Valley Blue Devils swim club had a successful weekend in Nanaimo Aug. 2-4, competing at the Vancouver Island Regional Championships.

Teen wins Sunnydale championship

Nicolette Vinnedge of the Comox Valley Kickers rugby club was part of the B.C. U18 women鈥檚 team that placed third at the U18 Western Championship on the B.C. Day weekend in Regina. After losing to eventual tourney champion Alberta Black in the semis, the U18s beat the B.C. U17 team 22-0 in the bronze medal match.

Grace Coulter fired a net score of 68 to win the Florence Filberg Memorial Trophy, Aug. 6 at the Comox Golf Club.

Sports can often be serious business, but on Aug. 22, it鈥檒l be anything but as Nanaimo鈥檚 Peter Hudson, better known as 鈥�5-10,鈥� and Vancouver鈥檚 Chris Griffin visit Royston to headline No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls: A Comedic Fundraiser for the Comox Valley Kickers Rugby Club.

Vancouver Island North (Zone 2) is sending 451 participants, along with 31 supporters, to the 55+ BC Games next month in Kelowna. A total of 106 participants from the Comox Valley will take part in the multi-sport event that runs from Sept. 10-14.

Several Comox Valley rugby players were part of the B.C. U16 and U15 girls teams that won gold and silver respectively at the U16 Western Championships in Kelowna.
