The Highland senior boys basketball team participated in the Edward Milne AA Tournament in Sooke on Dec. 28 and 29. Game one versus Parkland Secondary saw two evenly matched teams battling it out. Will Derksen, who was all arms in the paint, scored six points in the first quarter and would go on to draw out eight free throw opportunities through the third and fourth quarters.

The Strathcona Nordic Ski Club and Vancouver Island were well represented by 13 athletes at the Haywood 2018 NorAm/US Super Tour Cross Country ski race in Vernon in early December. This was the first time on snow for most of the athletes, who put all their hours of dryland training to work, and displayed some excellent skiing and results over the two-day event.
