The Under-15 Strathcona Bears competed at the Pat Quinn Classic — one of the preeminent hockey tournaments in North America — Dec. 28-31 in Burnaby.

The host Vanier Secondary and John Barsby squared off in the championship final Saturday at the 52nd annual Towhee Invitational Senior Boys Basketball Tournament. Vanier reached the final by defeating crosstown rival Highland 60-50 in one semi-final. In the other semi, Barsby beat Victoria school Glenlyon Norfolk 66-63.

The Comox Valley Under-13 boys hockey team, the Sharks, won a bronze medal after beating Vancouver 5-3 at a tournament on the weekend in Powell River.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings kicked off the new year with a 5-4 shootout victory Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Port Alberni.

Vanier’s senior boys basketball team beat Port Alberni 66-58 in a road game over the Christmas break. Towhees coach Larry Street said it was a good game throughout as the score went back-and-forth within six points in all quarters.
