The Comox Valley Paddlers Club is excited to announce it is has returned to hosting live meetings at the Lion’s Den in Comox at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month from October to May. The location is 1729 Comox Ave., lower level accessed off Nordin Street.

There is a rapidly growing sport surging through Canada and North America, and it has landed in the Comox Valley. It’s a cross between ping pong, badminton and tennis. Played on a badminton-sized court with a lower net, a wiffle ball, a short-handled paddle. and can be played indoors or outside…..pickleball!

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings dropped to third place in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League North Division after losing a pair of games on the weekend.

The Ecole Mark Isfeld junior boys volleyball team finished third at the Vancouver Island championships Nov. 9-10 at Belmont Secondary in Victoria. By placing in the top three, the Ice earned a trip to the provincial tournament later this month in Kamloops.

Junior sailors from the Comox Bay Sailing Club spent the month of October travelling to regattas on and off the Island, taking advantage of the unseasonal weather to put their summer training to good effect.

Courtenay-raised Camryn Curts, captain of the Thompson Rivers University women’s soccer team, found the back of the net in the 65th minute to send the Canada West semi-final match against Trinity Western University into overtime, Friday at UBC. Trinity scored a goal in the second half of overtime to advance to the championship final, where they lost to UBC.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings won on the road, then lost at home in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action over the weekend.

Over the past three years, a female development program run by the Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association (CVMHA) has grown from five to nearly 50 players.

The Ecole Mark Isfeld junior boys and girls volleyball teams travelled to RE Mountain community school in Langley Oct. 28-29 for the annual mixed junior Halloween tournament.

Two graduates of the Upper Island Riptide are part of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) team that has advanced to the Canada West Women’s Soccer Final Four Championship. Camryn Curts is in her fifth year on the team and Sydney Sunderland is a sophomore. Both are midfielders and both grew up in Courtenay.
