Canadian soldier and surgeon, John McCrae, is most famous for being the author of In Flanders Fields, the most recognizable poem of the First World War, and a staple of Remembrance Day commemorations.

On Remembrance Day we come together to share our gratitude, pride and sorrow as we remember and honour those Canadians who have served our country.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the red poppy as a symbol of remembrance.

Since the first commemoration in 1919, each November 11th, Canadians pay tribute to those members of the Armed Forces and civilians who have sacrificed and lost their lives in times of war, conflict and peace.

Remembrance Day is an occasion when the women and men at 19 Wing Comox are again grateful to stand beside the members of our local community to honour the sacrifice of those who fought and died in the name of peace.

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 Remembrance Day activities will be scaled back once again this year.

Guests will not be required to provide proof of vaccination to recreate outdoors
