The Sovereign Lake Ski club of Vernon hosted a record-breaking Midget Championsips this month. Thirteen athletes from the Strathcona Nordic Ski club, ages nine to 12 years, competed against 250 athletes from B.C. and Washington. The fun event was designed to give this age group a variety of racing format opportunities.

Graham Forsyth of the Comox Valley Road Runners was the top local runner at the Cobble Hill 10k — the second event in the Vancouver Island Race Series — running 36:19 for fifth-place in his age group. Jonathan Noel was 20 seconds behind for sixth in the same age group. The top local woman was once again Aislinn Deenihan, finishing in 42:08 for fourth in her age group.
